2018 Rose of Pinot Noir
Refreshing and easy going, AVERÆN Rosé hails from a high elevation, cool vineyard called Mason Ridge in the deep north end of the Willamette Valley.
92% Pinot Noir & 8% Pinot Gris
MASON RIDGE VINEYARD - Willamette Valley AVA
Remote, windy and cold, the grapes here struggle for ripeness, making it an ideal source for Rose production (and sparkling wine if we were so inclined). As such, the farming including crop load and canopy management was done with intention, our scopes honed in on Rose.
GROWER/OWNER - Owner/grower Michelle Mears
SOIL TYPE - Cascade series (silty loam with Missoula Flood deposits, mountain made)
VINE AGE - Planted in 1996
VINEYARD SIZE - Total of 15 acres, Averæn contracts 2 blocks – one older vines and one younger (planted in 2010)
ASPECT/ELEVATION - Southeast facing at 800’ elevation
Cold-pressed whole cluster after 6 hours of skin contact. Native yeast fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel with no malolactic conversion.
TASTING NOTES |
You know that band of still-pink-but-almost-to-the-white watermel- on flesh next to the rind? Think that with a drop of citrus and some pomegranate tang. Don’t let the pale color fool you – this Rose is packed with intoxicating aromas and complexity on its lithe body.
