Violet Hill

2021 Santa Barbara Pinot Noir

VINEYARDS | 100% Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County, half of which hails from the Santa Maria Valley sub-appellation. The Santa Maria Valley, oriented from east to west, allows chilly winds and fog from the Pacific Ocean to flow freely, with much of the coolness settling into the lower-lying basins. This cooling effect is significant enough to affect the length of the growing season in this region, making it among the longest in the world.

WINEMAKING | Hand harvested, much of which occurred in the early predawn hours to retain freshness. Primary fermentation in small vats is followed by malolactic conversion and ten months of aging in a French oak and tank regimen.

TASTING NOTES | Supple, velvety, and laden with luscious crimson flavors of berries and cherries that evolve with resinous spice, smoky cedar, and herbaceousness on the palate. The bolder Santa Barbara component lends weight and ripe fruit, while the Santa Maria parcels offer savory and fresh herbal tea high tones.
