Valravn
2023 Zinfandel
BLEND | 90% Zinfandel & 10% Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Cabernet Sauvignon
VINEYARDS |Since our first vintage, Valravn Zinfandel has been based on old, bush-pruned vines averaging 40 years old (some over 100) across the county’s best appellations. The grapes are primarily from Dry Creek Valley, with smaller parcels from Russian River Valley, Rockpile, Alexander Valley, and Yorkville Highlands. Hand-harvested, hand-sorted, and gently destemmed before fermentation.
WINEMAKING |In the cellar, the grapes underwent a cold soak (with the berries intact) to enhance the juicy fruit profile, followed by primary fermentation. Once fully dry, the wine was racked to barrel for malolactic fermentation and aged twelve months in French oak—a diverse mix of barrels ranging from first use to neutral, in sizes from barrique to puncheon.
TASTING NOTES | Lush and expressive, this Sonoma County Zinfandel opens with effusive aromas of boysenberry, cassis, and ripe plums layered with cocoa nib and sweet spice. The palate is vibrant yet silky, showing concentrated blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries framed by gentle tannins. A deep, chocolatey core and subtle mint and black pepper notes carry through a long, velvety finish.
PRESS | 93 JS “Pleasurable and delicious, this wine shows the fresh, pretty, medium-bodied side of zinfandel. Wild strawberry jam and juicy bright cherry flavors complement sweet, tannins and abundant acidity. Easygoing, fun to drink and a good
